Holiday Fun for Junior Superheroes

By Tanayah Wakefield

Would-be superheroes are in for a treat these school holidays, with a free family fun day presented by Creative Alliance and Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Regional Arts Services manager Katie Edmiston says children can dress up, create superhero badges, and enjoy comic book-style art and story time as part of the fun on September 26 at Caboolture Hub.

There will also be a performance by Vulcana Circus and creative workshops celebrating the opening of Cleverman, an exhibition paying homage to the popular ABC TV sci-fi series.

The family fun day runs from 10am-2pm.

“Dress up as your favourite superhero and join us for superhero-themed performances, workshops, story time and the opening of the Cleverman exhibition,” Katie says.

Superhero art

“Local artist Jennis Ardern will be inspiring young visitors to imagine themselves as the superheroes of their own lives with installations and workshops at the Hub,” Katie says.

Children can take a quiz to find out what type of superhero they might be, and then design a logo to show everyone their awesome superhero qualities.

“Then turn your logo into a badge and wear it proudly,” Katie says.

Vulcana Circus

Picnic, a performance by Vulcana Circus, tells the story of Earnest and Frank, who live alone and have been very good at following guidelines about going out and staying in during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They used to meet every Saturday for a picnic but stopped in March.

In Picnic, they meet for their first appropriately distanced catch-up in what feels like forever.

Studio Fantastico

School holiday entertainment continues at Caboolture Hub thanks to Studio Fantastico, which runs from September 28 to October 3.

“Each morning, young creators are invited to book into Studio Fantastico for small group workshops to celebrate the opening of Cleverman, including costume making, claymation, and special effects photoshoots,” Katie says.

“Or drop by in the afternoon and enjoy a variety of activities including flip book animation, thaumatropes, movable creatures, graphic illustrations and zine creation.”
Bookings are required for Studio Fantastico workshops.
