New pedestrian crossing for Newport shopping centre

By Tenika Sanders

A pedestrian crossing will be built on Lakeview Promenade at Newport to service the newly opened supermarket in the Newport Marketplace.

Residents from the Levande Newport retirement village had called for a new crossing, with a petition signed by 118 people tabled at the October 26 meeting of Moreton Bay Regional council.

“We the undersigned would like a pedestrian crossing installed on Lakeview Promenade to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely to the new shopping centre development,” the petition, tabled by Cr Sandra Ruck (Div 5), said.

“The road is very busy and we are residents of a retirement village and feel it is dangerous with the amount of traffic, the speed at which they travel and some very hoonish behaviour at times.”
